We are off school for a couple of days and so today I took the kids to Wisley Gardens to see the butterflies in the big greenhouse. We have been every year now since Polly was a few months old and it has become a kind of tradition - I jumped at the chance to go in term time when there was no queue. The greenhouse was like a sauna, there was steam pumping out of the ceiling at regular intervals and I was carrying way too much stuff but we stayed in there for ages - the kids just removed most of their clothing and walked around in vests and boots. It was mainly old people and mums with babies; I noticed how much the old people physically pushed kids out of their way when they wanted to get close for a photo, but also how much they wanted to chat.
We had lunch outside - with no coats - what a treat! It was actually warm in the sun and there was sun for a good couple of hours. The gardens were beautiful and signs of spring are beginning to show. I know it's a long way off but it's still good to see.
We came home and painted butterflies. See, I could homeschool, right?
Hula hoops, cute hats, curly blonde hair, sunny days, spring flowers, little painting smocks. It feels like a long time since I have seen them. xxx
